The Offense Has Taken A Step Back With Ben McAdoo As Head Coach

The Offense has taken a step back with Ben McAdoo as head coach

The Giants entered the 2016 season looking like they were going to field a top five offense. Odell Beckham in his third year, A healthy Victor Cruz, and a 2nd round rookie Sterling Shepard who looked poised for Offensive Rookie Of The Year. That just hasn’t been the case thus far this season. The Giants started off 2-0 and while they did not dominate anyone they did win. The last 3 games the Giants offense has failed the defense time and time again. Whether it was against the Packers when Janoris Jenkins got two interceptions. Or against the Vikings when the offense was called for multiple drive killing penalties. Last of all against Washington when Eli threw a 4th quarter interception to end the game.

All the penalties turnovers and just lack of execution of on offense has really made it tough for us Giants fans the past 3 weeks. This season was supposed to be different. The offense was only supposed to be better with Ben McAdoo getting promoted to head coach. The offense has been anything but better. They have taken a step back in all major statistical categories offensively. When I watch the Giants I see one half of the team doing their best to keep the entire team afloat. The defense has been good, but the injuries are piling up. Even with the injuries last week against the Packers the defense kept them in the game late into the 4th quarter.

It has become a common occurrence the defense will make stop the opposing offense from getting into the endzone. The offense will come out underperform and put the defense right back out there. The stats back it up too the Giants rank 31st in time of possession with 26:21 per game. Time Of Possession is not always the most important stat lets say if you’re a quick hitting offense it could be skewed. The Giants have not proved to be a quick hitting offense. They rank a paltry 27th in points per game with 17.8. That is almost 10 points per game less than last year. This type of regression is really not acceptable for an offensive minded head coach. Ben McAdoo has many problems he needs to address with this team, but the major one is the offense and getting it on the right track.

There is still plenty of hope for the Giants they are only 2 games out of first place and they are .500 in the division. The offensive weapons are still extremely potent even with the injuries. The Giants need to start passing to open up the run and figure out a way to beat this two deep safety look. The entire Odell beckham situation has been blown out of proportion. He has shown he has a sense of humor towards the whole situation when he hugged the kicking net after getting his first touchdown of the 2016 season. The Giants need to get healthy in the secondary and get the offense together to make a run in this still open division. Some Fires For McAdoo To Put Out
