Giants VS Vikings Review/Analysis Week 4

Positives
The Giants came into this game banged up missing more than 3 starters on each side of the ball. The defense came out and forced an early punt on Minnesota’s opening drive. Dwayne Harris fumbled the punt and it was recovered by the Vikings. That play set the tone for the entire game. Wait this is supposed to be positive…. Paul Perkins had a nice screen pass that went for 68 yards that led to the Giants sole touchdown. The positives were hard to come by going up against the best defense in the NFL.

Negatives
This Giants team seems to be affected by the media more than they ever were in the Tom Coughlin era. The team seems undisciplined and non cohesive at times. There seems to be a clear disconnect between the level of intensity the defense brings vs the offense. The media hammered Beckham all week long for his actions vs Washington. The criticism had an effect on him in this game. Granted the Vikings threw plenty of double coverage his way, but that is to be expected at this point. Odell is surely a freak talent but he needs guidance and it has not come from this coaching staff to this point. It is always too up and down with him. Either he is fired up and making plays, or sinking into the bench hanging his head. You cannot question his passion which is why I love him, but the 2016 Odell has hurt the Giants.

Ereck Flowers
He has once again cost the Giants. It seems like every week he has multiple penalties a game. He is still raw and that just is not acceptable at this point. The Giants need Ereck Flowers to come around and live up to his draft status.

Offensive Play Calling
The Giants game plan just did cut it against the Vikings today. The Giants need to push the ball downfield. They have to find ways to loosen up the deep safeties. The offense has taken several steps back this season. I am not a coach and I will not act like one. It does seem to me that Ben McAdoo has not had the grasp on the offense he had last year. Possibly the move to head coach does not allow him to have his hands directly on the offense as he should. Whatever it is the Giants need to figure it out quick.

Overall
The Giants have fallen to 2-2 and are in last place in the division. The Eagles are coming off a bye week and are surging with rookie QB Carson Wentz. The Cowboys and Rookie QB Dak Prescott are staying above .500 at 3-1. The Giants are in for another tough test next week at the Packers. They very well may lose thier next 3 games. Lets hope that is not the case and we can get healthy.
