Giants Vs Steelers Review Week 13

This was a rough game for Giants players and fans alike. The Giants fell to 8-4 losing to the Steelers 24-14 snapping their 6 game winning streak. There is no sugar coating this loss it was not the best of performances once again primarily by the offense. The lack of running game, penalties, and costly ill timed turnovers are to blame for this loss. There have been a few themes to the Giants 2016 season and they have been persistent. The run game is no where to be found and as a result the offense lacks consistency. Eli Manning needs a run game to be at his best or at least the threat of the run.

Positives

Paul Perkins
He ran well and found something out of nothing. He was only given the ball 7 times even though he was averaging 5.4 ypc to Rashad Jennings 3.2 ypc. The Giants were trailing most of the game but never by enough to abandon the running game when it was actually working. The Giants need to get a running back 20 carries in a game and at least see where it takes them.

Damon Harrison
The Big guy finished with 9 tackles easily one of the most active defensive tackles in the league he continues to impress.

Eli Apple
He had an impressive game sunday. Coming up with a TFL a pick and a Fumble recovery. He played a solid all around game and made splash plays. He was getting picked on recently in the pass game, but he stepped up sunday and made plays to keep the Giants in the game.

Negatives

Eli Manning
Eli had a pretty bad game this week with the ill timed turnovers the worst of which was the one in the red zone. He was 24 of 39 for 195 yards and 2 picks it was one of his worst games of the season. The offense had under 100 yards coming out of the half which is just unacceptable, and for the Giants to win games in December they have to do better Eli has to be better if they want to have a chance in this final four game stretch.

Run Game
The Overall run game was once again abysmal. The execution was poor and once it did get going they got away from it. The need for Justin Pugh back is greater than ever as it seems to also calm down Ereck Flowers. It was a rough game for the offensive line this week and the running game suffered as a result. Which has the same theme all season long.

Ereck Flowers
Man is this guy working his way into The Larry Donnell, Rueben Randle conversation. He has continuously cost the team week after week. He let up 7 total pressures while the rest of the o-line surrendered only 4. His technique continues to cost him and he is still relying only on his athleticism and it is costing him and the team.

Overall
If the Giants want to stand a chance in December they have to get more from Eli Manning and more from the running game. This defense is playoff ready and if the offense could just keep them off the field and let them rest more they would be that much more physical. I see this team as a few adjustments away from being able to make some noise in the playoffs they just need to get some things right and get better play from the Eli.

Up Next
Dallas is next sunday night in what could prove to be the biggest game of the season. With losses by all around the NFC the Giants are just about untouched, but the Bucs, Falcons and Vikings are all right on the Heels of the G-men. They have to keep winning to secure the wild card spot.

Injury Alert
Jpp went down in the second quarter with a Groin injury and we wont have an update until at least wednesday. If he is gone for extended time The Giants defense will be in trouble.
